Pigging Out With the Port Workers

KaliPng

Perhaps the only joy about being jetlagged in Singapore for us is being up early enough to eat the Hainanese curry rice (“kali png”) at Pasir Panjang Food Centre. Here we are at 5 am, tucking into breaded pork chops, braised pork belly, stewed cabbage with glass noodles and curried squid, alongside the real star of the show: plain white rice drenched in a delicious mix of curry and soy sauce.  The good stuff usually runs out pretty early, around 9 at latest.  It’s always thronged by port workers going on and off their shift, no doubt because they need a really hearty meal to sustain them through their physically demanding day.  We don’t have any such excuse… except homesickness.
