2 Simple Herbal Remedies for Seasonal Allergies

My daughter and I both suffer from pretty serious seasonal allergies. Our eyes get red and itchy and it becomes quite impossible for us to breathe.

For our itchy eyes, my aunt recently reminded me of a herbal remedy that I used when I had eczema as a kid. We used it this season and our eyes were soothed, the itch went away, and no more redness after a few treatments. The best part is, it’s natural and we can apply as many times as necessary.

Here it is.

#1 The Flushing Remedy for Itchy Eyes:

1. Steep a mixture of dried chrysanthemum flowers (“ju hua” or 菊花in Mandarin) and honeysuckle flowers （”jin yin hua” 金银花 in Mandarin）in hot water.

2. Allow it to cool to a comfortably warm temperature.

3. Use a clean towel to wash your eyes with the flower mixture. For the spa experience, we just place two clean sponges wet with the flower water on our eyes.

You can buy the flowers easily from any Chinese herbal store. Usually $5 or less per packet and you can keep them refrigerated for a long time.

They also make a great tea – good for getting rid of the heat in the body.

#2 The Flushing Remedy for Congestion, Sneezing, Runny Nose:

I was just informed about this remedy yesterday by my hairdresser and I’m about to try it as I just bought it from the Chinese herbal store. Will let you know the results.

1. Drink one cup of Tibetan Baicao Tea (“baicao” or 百草 literally means a hundred types of plants) a day for three days.

There’s only one step. And apparently, you will have pollen-immunity.

It costs about $8 per pack.

Feel better, and then go eat some dim sum!

UPDATE

I drank the foul-tasting tea for 4 days, and all allergies gone. I don’t know if it’s because it’s the end of allergy season or because it really works… but I’m feeling great!
